John Knight Memorial Prize
In late April 2008, I was shortlisted for the John Knight Memorial Prize by my lecturers at the University of Gloucestershire. Each year, the award is given to one Undergraduate and one Postgraduate student by an independant panel of judges from the Landscape Institute. They have their own criteria; often not based on academic merit, but rather the feasibility of a students work; their consideration for the local community, the consideration of the impact of their work, and how, in a real sense, a project could be implemented.
The judging was undertaken at the End of Year Show, with each shortlisted student given 10-15 minutes with the judges to tell them a little bit about themselves, the work they had done, how they got into Landscape Architecture etc.
The long and short of it - I won. It was fantastic to have all the effort I'd put in recognised in such a way, and a great way to end a very enjoyable evening at the show. It is always good to meet new faces in the profession, and I'd like to thank everyone who both organised it, and just turned up to help make it such a successful event.
