Work Experience

June 2010 – Present Day West Dorset District Council – Landscape Architect
In a career-grade position, the Council is currently supporting me through the Landscape Institute's Pathway to Chartership.  My typical work includes providing specialist landscape advice to the development control process including landscape design and maintenance issues, assisting in the preparation of the LDF, Green Infrastructure Strategy and other landscape policies and designations, assisting in the design and implementation of Council-run projects e.g. public realm improvements, and providing graphics support to the Local & Strategic Policy teams.

Jan 2010 – June 2010 Graduate – Tyler Grange
As the only employee in a new start-up company I provided support to the four Directors in Landscape Planning and Design, Arboriculture, Ecology, Graphics and GIS, Administration and Accounting.  The majority of my work focussed on Landscape Planning, particularly assisting in the preparation of Landscape and Visual evidence for inquiry for a variety of projects - this would typically involve the baseline data trawl and research, and the production of the supporting graphics.  Any simpler landscape projects (either assessment or design) were passed to me to complete and checked by the landscape director before issue.

Sep 2008 – Jun 2010 Freelance Landscape Assistant
Providing AutoCAD and graphics assistance to landscape professionals throughout my time at university.  Selected examples of the types of work undertaken are available on my portfolio pages.

Jul 2007 – Sep 2008 Waterman EED – Graduate Landscape Consultant
Taken on as a year–out student, Waterman kindly sponsored me through my Postgraduate year of university.  With a focus towards planning and assessment, throughout the year I developed a good undertanding of the current and developing planning system, gained experience in the process of Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, as well as a number of other aspects of the landscape industry including working up planting plans and maintenance schedules, technical hard landscape details, arboricultural assessment and strategic landscape planning.  I was also able to assist a number of other disciplines within the company with various surveys and site visits.

Feb 2006 – April 2007 Cineworld, Cheltenham – Multifunctional staff, Technician
Took an active roll in the opening of the new cinema complex, duties included running box office, the bar and concessions stand – customer service, and all aspects of floor work such as screen checks and cleaning.  I was trained in the projection suite and was often left alone to run the 11 screens, both during the day, and opening or closing the suite.  Other responsibilities included making up and breaking down films, changing adverts and trailers, as well as various technician duties around the cinema.

2001 – 2006 Various public service and hospitality employment
Employment included; Garden Centre assistant; part of the Virgin Megastores Christmas Temp team; Hotel housekeeper, waitress and receptionist; and part of the services team at Cheltenham Racecourse
